Why Change is Inevitable

Whether we like it or not, the world and everything in it is constantly moving and changing. The cells in our bodies are dying and regenerating. The weather changes from day to day (even in supposedly sunny California). Life is not meant to be one big constant. It is meant to be experienced and lived through the various changes and challenges that we face.

We can wish that things would always stay the same. I have been saying that to my kids for years. “Why can’t you stay like you were at 5? You promised.” They say, “We can’t help it. It just happens.”

Now, of course, I am just joking.  I know they can’t stay the same forever. I often wish they could, but I know it’s not possible. We want things to stay the same because it’s familiar or because it truly is exactly as we dreamed.

But since that isn’t realistic, we must learn to embrace, in fact, even seek change. Look at the areas of your life that are working and keep doing the things that make it work. If you have a great relationship, then make sure you nurture it by spending time together, appreciating each other, and looking for ways to celebrate.

If you have a job you love, keep looking for ways to grow your skill, get involved in critical projects to ensure your company’s success, and forging strong internal relationships.  If your health is solid, keep eating right, exercising and getting enough sleep. If you feel your spiritual life is on point, keep meditating, praying or attending services.

But if you find that there are any areas where you could improve, don’t wait. Start NOW. Embracing change is not a “nice to have” it’s a “need to have” attitude. If you resist, then the problems will only get worse.

The courses I am developing or have developed in my past are those which require a commitment to change. We all have room to grow. If we are still alive, then we need to keep looking for ways to grow or we start to diminish. Don’t let that be you. Look for ways to improve who you are, what you give, and how to you give your gifts… every day.

As Barack Obama says, “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”

Now go out there and CHANGE THE WORLD!
